This VGB standard is intended to enhance the service performance (equipment availability) of heat exchangers and boilers in the water/steam cycle of thermal power stations. It may be agreed, regardless of the acknowledged technical rules, in accordance with the principle of self-responsibility between the customer and the Supplier. The basis for the revision was the second edition of the VGB-R 110 guideline of 1988, which is replaced by this VGB standard.

The VGB standard consists of a general section for the order and a technical section for the manufacturing and quality control.

The VGB standard is an important means of rationalisation and encourages cooperation between the parties concerned to enhance performance.

The VGB standard was agreed with the Association of Steam Boiler, pressure Vessel and Piping Manufacturers e.V. (FDBR) in Düsseldorf.
