Very substantial advances have been made over the last couple of years in the field of heat transfer surface cleaning which are included in the present revision of the Standard (cf. first edition):

• Early troubles with water blowers were overcome and their operation becomes increasingly more effective

• Identification of the actual extent of slagging and fouling is much improved e.g. by thermodynamic calculations, thermocouple measurements and use of infrared cameras resp.

New methods like explosion cleaning are now included in the text.
